Easy house cleaning tips

cleaning tips

Cleaning can be a mammoth task, no matter what age you are. But as you get older, it does tend to become more difficult.

There are certain things you can do to make cleaning a bit easier in your old age, such as getting telescopic dusters and mops. But what else can you do to make cleaning easier? Well, we’ve rounded up some other easy ways to get your house sparkling and shiny again.

Keep cleaning supplies where you need them

Instead of having all your cleaning supplies underneath the kitchen sink, or in a cupboard somewhere, keep them in the same room you need them. This does mean that you might need to get two of one item, like two Windexes, but it will also save you from having to walk upstairs and then downstairs over and over.

Do a bit at a time

Cleaning can be tiring at any age and sometimes this becomes an excuse not to do it. So, instead of spending a whole day cleaning, just do a bit at a time. Set your alarm for 10 minutes, and spend those ten minutes cleaning. But once the alarm goes off, sit down and relax.

Don’t be scared to use your dishwasher

In the early days of dishwashers, there was a massive list of things that couldn’t go in there. But now, the tables have turned. Most things can go in the dishwasher, even things you’d never think of. Check out the full list here.

Clean your microwave with zero effort

Splatter always happens in a microwave, it’s unavoidable. But cleaning it off doesn’t have to be such a big effort. Simply place a chopped up lemon and several tablespoons of vinegar into a bowl of water and put the whole thing in the microwave. Put the microwave on high power until the window gets steamy, then remove the bowl and wipe the inside with a sponge. The grime will slide clean off.

Line your slow cooker

Using a slow cooker is one of the best ways to make a nice, hot meal in the winter with relatively little effort. The worst part of using a slow cooker? Cleaning it. So instead, try using a slow cooker liner like this one. That way, when you’re done, you just remove the liner and your slow cooker is good as new.

Use vinegar in the bathroom

Vinegar works wonders on limescale in bathrooms. You can apply it neat to problem areas (you could soak your odd socks in it too, and put them on the sections that need treating). It is also brilliant on shower heads that have started spraying in all directions; break off the bigger pieces of limescale with your thumb and then leave the shower head to soak in a dish of vinegar.

Make it fun!

Instead of making your chores a, well, chore, why not make them fun? Turn that grueling task into something more enjoyable. Turn the radio up and have your own little party – that way, cleaning becomes slightly more enjoyable.
